History

Martial Artists for Children and Community (MACC) Foundation was founded January 28th, 2008 in Ankeny, Iowa. We were born out of necessity to better utilize and control the flow of resources by events organized by Martial Arts America, a Tae Kwon Do school with whom we are closely associated. MACC ensures these resources are directed to individuals and groups in need within our local community.

MACC's intitial Board of Directors, comprised of five local black belts, quickly got to work organizing our first fundraiser: a board break-a-thon at Merle Hay Mall in Des Moines, Iowa. The event was held on March 15th, 2008 in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Iowa. Later that year, on September 20th, our first 5K event was held in Huxley, Iowa, raising over $1,700. Every year since, MACC has held these two events as the primary fundraisers for the organization.

The funds raised by MACC are distributed to individuals in need of financial assistance for medical hardships or sudden financial stresses as well as groups and organizations who contribute to the community. As of August 2019, MACC has raised and donated funds for 94 individuals and organizations exceeding $71,000!
