5K Family Fun Run
The annual Martial Artists for Children and Community 5K Family Fun Run is an event that has been held every year, rain or shine (even snow!) since September 2008. Like our board break, the 5K is a great event that focuses on the martial artists physical fitness. Unlike the board break, however, this event is geared even more towards the whole family and the entire community being able to be involved.
MACC’s Fun Run really tries to emphasize the fun portion. Running is not a requirement but it is definitely an option! For the more avid runners amongst us, it is a USA Track and Field sanctioned event and there are occasionally prizes for the top finishers. However, for everyone else who just likes to get out and get some general exercise, we have had people bike, walk, scooter, skate, even stroller and walk dogs! It is an event for anyone and everyone and all of the proceeds go into the MACC Foundation grant funds.
Some past events have focused on the particular organizations and areas where the funds have gone towards. Many of the 5K fundraising efforts have directly involved participation from the beneficiaries. We have held events at local fire stations to raise funds for the departments and we have had employees from local hospice care participate alongside our volunteers and students. Sometimes, the fire departments even have a corresponding pancake breakfast and will get out their fire trucks and ambulances for tours! While all of the funds go into the MACC Foundation, we do try to gear the 5K towards a particular organization or cause for marketing with our generous partners.
The 5K will go on, rain or shine, every year so be on the lookout for more details and your chance to register for this fun, family event!
